2008 Actifest - London Ontario

LOCAL COMPETITORS DO WELL AT ACTIFEST 2008

 

 

Sixteen competitors from District 22 (Ancaster & Dundas Flamborough, Glanbrook, Winona and Stoney Creek) competed in London, Ontario at Actifest 2008.  Actifest is the Ontario Senior Games where approximately 1000 competitors from all over the Province come to compete and have fun over three days.  To qualify for the games you must be 55+ years of age and have competed in a local event prior to the games.  London’s Actifest offered 17 events. Both active (eg., swimming) and passive (eg., bid euchre) so that competitors with different physical abilities could enjoy competing and meeting with others with similar interests.

 

Aubrey Smith, Ancaster resident, won a gold medal in the 55-64 age group in the 50 meter sprint in swimming.  His time of 38.6 seconds placed him well ahead of the other finishers.  Wilma Jeppesen won a silver medal in Women’s Golf in the 0-25 handicap. She was only 1 stroke short of winning gold.  Cameron Clarke also had a strong outing in Golf, placing 8th out of 18 golfers.

 

Other local competitors included Larry Shea and Glen Kerr in Bid Euchre.  Contract Bridge had Ruth Roe and Shirley Renton competing.  Five-pin Bowling was handled by a Waterdown team composed of Bob Nelson, Jim Verrall, Anna Thomson, Bill Bleses and Carol Bleses.

 

RSon and Mary Smithson competed in Floor Shuffleboard.  Golfers Bob Harris and Cameron Clarke competed for the men while Shirley Glauser and Wilma Jeppeson competed for the women.

 

District 22 is looking for competitors for Winterfest 2009 to be held in Brockville, Ontario February 11th to 13th, 2009.  Winterfest events are:  Alpine Skiing, Badminton, Bowling, Bridge, Curling, Hockey, Prediction Ice Skating, Prediction Cross Country Skiing, Squash, Table Tennis and Volleyball.  If you are 55+ and would like to have a fantastic time and meet fellow competitors from all over the Province, District 22 would like to hear from you.  To get more information, contact the Ancaster Senior Achievement Centre at 905-648-3466 or Ernie Hudson, Ontario Senior Games representative at 905-648-3715.
