Signs of Abuse

Do you feel your partner has power and control over you?
Does your partner hit, punch, scratch, kick, or physically harm you in any way?
Does your partner call you names, insult you, play mind games on you or any other kind of emotional harm?
Does your partner threaten or intimidate you?
Does your partner use your children to control you?
Is there unwanted sexual touching, name calling and/or forced sex from your partner?
Does your partner isolate you from your extended family and friends?
Does your partner take away your economic / financial control?

These are some signs of abuse – remember abuse is NOT your fault!  Tell someone today and ask for help in Flamborough.

Is our service right for you?

• Are you a survivor of violence or abuse? Has someone physically, emotionally, verbally, financially, sexually or in some other manner harmed or hurt you?
• Do you feel unsafe?
• Do you need support, advocacy or referral for counseling, legal issues, housing, parenting support, educational upgrading etc.?
• Would you like individual support in making both short and long term plans for your future?

A Transitional Support Worker can meet with you over a period of days, weeks or months to assist you in establishing yourself in the community. She will work with you to determine exactly what types of supports you (and your children) need to live with enhanced safety, comfort and dignity.

Woman To Woman

Women: Do you sometimes feel like people walk all over you?  Do you find it difficult to trust others and yourself?  Do you want to learn how to communicate better in relationships?  You are not alone.   Many women struggle with setting boundaries in relationships or with communicating their needs and wishes to the people they love.  Lack of trust and respect are also issues that many of us face in our relationships.

Family and partner relationships can be some of the most fulfilling and important aspects of our lives, yet they are a lot of hard work and can also present us with some of the most difficult challenges on a personal level.  When problems in relationships arise they can have a tremendous impact on our emotional and mental well-being, especially for women.  As women we have been socialized to look after relationships, make them work, take responsibility for them, and ensure that everyone is happy.  Sometimes our own needs get pushed to the back burner in our effort to make everything ok.

If you are looking for a chance to talk with other women about some of these relationship issues and how to take better care of yourself in the process, come check out the Woman to Woman group.  You will learn about: communication strategies, setting boundaries for yourself, what makes a healthy relationship, and more.  Woman to Woman will be held on Thursdays 6:30pm - 8:30pm starting February 15th for six weeks.  All women are welcome.  For more information, to register and location details, call Shelley at Flamborough Information & Community Services at 905-689-7880, or toll free at 1-800-297-3427.

Child minding for 5-12 yr olds available upon request.
